Top binge-worthy shows and books that address mental health

Updated: Jan 18, 2022

Looking for some new TV shows to watch or books to devour during the holiday season?

As mental health awareness continues to grow within our society, more and more TV shows, books and movies are tackling the difficult topic head on. Books on the topics of positive psychology and wellbeing science providing insights on how to live a good life, are also growing in numbers.

It is important however that the experience of mental health problems are accurately represented.

Below is a list of TV shows (and their associated broadcast networks) and books that are worth a watch / read this summer!

TV Shows:

  • Normal People (Stan) **Hint: The book is better!

  • Fleabag (Amazon Prime)

  • This is Us (Amazon Prime)

  • The Queen’s Gambit (Netflix)

Books:

  • Normal People (Sally Rooney)

  • Imagine Me Gone (Adam Haslett)

  • Portrait of an Addict as a Young Man (Bill Clegg)

  • The Sweet Spot (Paul Bloom)

  • Think Again (Adam Grant)

And as we address mental health in our community through TV shows and books, it may be an opportune time to determine whether you want to become more equipped to support friends, family members or colleagues that may also be struggling with a mental health crisis or illnesses.
